Obianuju Tóth is a Nigerian-born contemporary visual artist, philosopher, and author based in Hungary. She is the founder of ARTOMYSTIC, an interdisciplinary artistic practice investigating creative self-betrayal: the invisible psychological and behavioural structures through which highly creative people gradually abandon their own work before it reaches the world.
Her visual practice takes the form of sculptural ritual installations built from birch plywood, natural rope, linen thread, jute, and brass hardware. Through carved voids, routed grooves, and tensioned fibres embedded directly into the wood, she creates works that feel excavated rather than manufactured, as though they reveal structures that have always existed beneath the surface. Each installation functions as both sculpture and inquiry, inviting viewers to encounter patterns that often remain unnamed.
Her debut exhibition, The Architecture of Self-Betrayal, follows five sequential structures through which creative women unknowingly separate themselves from their own work: Restart Spiral, Well Gate, Reverse Spear, Hollow Crown, and Collision Line. Rather than offering solutions, the exhibition pauses at the moment of recognition, leaving transformation as an open question carried by the viewer.
Working across sculpture, writing, music, and installation, Tóth draws from philosophy, systems thinking, and close observation to investigate how identity shapes creative decisions. Her practice is grounded in the belief that contemporary art can make invisible psychological structures tangible, creating spaces where recognition becomes the beginning of change.
