Mohamed Larbi Ben Othmane Meghit (born November 17, 1993, Algeria) is a contemporary Algerian visual artist, painter, and sculptor, residing in Saida, Algeria. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Tlemcen and graduated from the Tlemcen School of Fine Arts, specializing in sculpture.
Meggit works in contemporary painting, oil painting, and sculpture, developing a multidisciplinary artistic practice that explores human existence, identity, memory, and social transformation. His visual language combines figurative, symbolic, and conceptual elements to create narratives that encourage reflection on the relationship between the individual and society.
Throughout his artistic career, Miguet has participated in numerous exhibitions and cultural events, establishing himself as one of the most promising voices in contemporary Algerian art. He has participated in more than thirty group exhibitions across Algeria and represented contemporary Algerian art internationally through his participation in Rome Art Week 2025 in Rome, Italy.
Among his notable exhibitions are the Hamoud Boualem National Arts Prize exhibition in Algeria (2025), the Show Art exhibition at the French Cultural Center in Annaba (2026), as well as several national exhibitions dedicated to contemporary artistic creativity.
His artistic achievements have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards. In 2024, he received the first prize of the President Ali Maachi National Prize, one of the highest cultural awards granted by the Algerian state under the patronage of the President of the Republic. That same year, he won first prize in the National Techno Arts Competition, achieving first place nationwide. He was also honored with the Hamoud Boualem National Prize in 2025.
Among his most prominent artistic projects is "The Exploitation of Animals for the Sake of Ideal Beauty," exhibited at the Techno Gallery in the historic Presidential Palace (Fort 23) in Algiers in 2024. This project critically analyzed the irrational exploitation of animals in the pursuit of ideal aesthetic standards. Other significant projects include "Identity and Forgetting" (2024), which explored the fragile relationship between memory and belonging, and "Waiting" (2026), an ongoing reflection on time, anticipation, and the uncertainty of the human experience. His graduation project from the Tlemcen Faculty of Fine Arts in 2023 marked a significant milestone in the development of his artistic and conceptual research.
At the heart of Miguet's artistic vision lies a philosophical exploration of contradiction as a life-giving force for creativity. His current artistic research project, "Opposites Give Birth to Life," explores how existence is shaped by the interplay of opposing forces: presence and absence, memory and forgetting, strength and fragility, hope and doubt. Through this approach, he seeks to demonstrate that opposites not only clash but also complement each other, creating balance, transformation, and meaning. His work suggests that contradiction is not a state of division but a fundamental principle underlying existence and artistic creation.
Through painting and sculpture, Mohamed Larbi Ben Othmane Meguit continues to develop a body of work that links personal experience with universal human questions, contributing to the increased international visibility of contemporary Algerian art.
