Shiva Navaei is an Iranian multidisciplinary visual artist based in Budapest. Trained in Graphic Design, she has also completed specialized studies in art, photography, and illustration. She began her professional practice in Iran as a photographer and later expanded her work into illustration, book design, painting, drawing, mixed media, and digital image-making.
Navaei combines manual and digital processes, bringing hand-drawn and painted elements together with photography, digital editing, and layered composition. Through surreal imagery and visual storytelling, she creates ambiguous narratives that remain open to multiple interpretations.
Her practice explores gender and the female experience within social structures. She approaches the body as a space in which personal memory, cultural expectations, identity, and collective experience intersect. Rather than presenting these subjects directly, she transforms observations and lived experiences into symbolic and dreamlike visual forms.
Her recent work includes a narrative artist’s book presented in a group exhibition. Composed of interconnected surreal illustrations, the project reflects her continuing interest in the relationship between image, sequence, memory, and storytelling.
